Jason Whisenant

'05 & '06 Boy's coach

      Jason has coached competitive soccer for the last 26 years.  In 1978, at the age of 8 years old, he began playing soccer for an experienced soccer player and coach from the Netherlands.  It was in the late 70’s, when Select Soccer began to take shape in North Texas. Jason’s passion for the game of kept him playing for the next 35 years.

      He began coaching Select Soccer in 1994, when he coached an Independent select U-17 team in Arlington, TX.  In 1995, he moved to Arkansas, where he accepted a job with Puma North America as a manufacturer’s rep for their Soccer division, and began coaching two teams for the Little Rock Soccer Club in 1998.  In 1999, his U-15 Boys won several statewide tournaments, with several players continuing on their soccer career in college. While living in Little Rock, he founded Soccer Etc., a soccer specific sporting goods store and opened 3 locations in Arkansas, continuing to coach and train various teams while managing his soccer company.

      In 2000, he moved back to Texas where he opened a Soccer Store in Fort Worth and provided skills training, and practice sessions after work in the evenings for various clubs and independent teams.  In 2001, he began coaching a 91 Boys team for the DFW Tejanos, and obtained a National D coaching license. In 2004, Jason took a break from coaching because he and his wife Kelly had their first of three sons.  

      In 2014, he formed Eagle Mountain FC, an independent competitive team and coached this group for the last couple of years.  Jason focuses on skills and technical training, but is most passionate about the tactical elements of the game. He also takes great pride and responsibility in his role as a coach and the the influence that a coach will have in developing and mentoring young boys as they grow into responsible and respectful young men.
